This is a little side-tour of about 25 km and is one of the sections that Virginia and John want to do some day.

Starting at Mannheim, you enter the Neckar at the intersection at PK 482.4 on the Rhein. Also, here you have to enter the Neckar river heading upstream! Ignoring this might bring you in a very difficult situation.

You should also be aware of the commercial shipping on the Neckar. The Neckar river is used to transport goods more eastward. So be aware of traffic coming out of the Neckar when passing the mouth.

Also take in consideration that entering upstream will make sure that you have a proper view up the Neckar before entering it. Make sure that by clear navigation, others know exactly what your intentions are. When you have AIS and VHF radio, use those to your advantage!

Pro Tip:Before you commencing this trip, we would suggest that you start from one of the marina's upstream on the Rhein. For example in one of the marina's at the Kiefscher Weiher (a.k.a Kiefweiher, an artificial lake born out of mining gravel and sand), of which the entrance is at Rhein PK 418.9

Starting at Heidelberg, you will follwo the Neckar to the intersection at PK 482.4 on the Rhein. Also, here you will leave the Neckar river heading downstream!

You should also be aware of the commercial shipping on the Neckar. The Neckar river is used to transport goods more eastward. So be aware of traffic on the Neckar.

Also take in consideration that exiting downstream will make sure that you have a limited view on the Rhein entering it. Make sure that by clear navigation, others know exactly what your intentions are. When you have AIS and VHF radio, use those to your advantage!
