Cooking and prepping
Food & beverages are a must if you want to stay over. And that you make in the "kombuis"....But cooking does not work if the equipment is outdated and therefore dangerous.
A boat from an earlier era may feature some charming elements that were once considered state-of-the-art at the time of its design. However, advancements in safety regulations and technology have significantly evolved, particularly in regard to the use of (butane/propane) gas. What was once standard practice in the 70s and 80s is no longer sufficient by today’s safety standards.
In modern systems, the use of hoses is minimal. When hoses are used, they must be easily accessible for inspection and must be replaced at regular intervals to ensure safety. While alternative stove options, such as diesel or alcohol-fueled models, are available, we’ve decided to take a different approach. We’re opting for a complete overhaul, with the installation of a brand new countertop, complete with a new sink and stove, to align with current standards and enhance both functionality and safety.
Changes and upgrading:
The Kombuis is whitin the Salon. Yep, not a separate space, but all included into one space. Therefore the use of a stove and a sink that has a lid, is only conveniant to have.
Planned upgrades for the Kombuis
- New countertop (Polyester laminated plywood)
- New Sink & 2 burner stove with glass lids
- Lighting
- New fridge
- Water Pump and Pressure Vessel
Gas
The modern gas system is composed of several key components designed to ensure safety and efficiency:
- A gas-proof bottle storage area, which includes an outlet at the bottom for venting gas safely outside the boat.
- A copper pipe running from the bottle storage to the gas distribution divider.
- A copper pipe extending from the divider to the various gas-powered appliances on board, such as the stove and fridge.
A detailed guide is provided in a that outlines the proper installation and usage of butane/propane gas on your boat. This guide covers all the necessary steps and precautions to ensure safe handling.
It is crucial to adhere strictly to the guidelines for using butane/propane, as any deviation from the recommended practices could lead to serious issues, including potential problems with your insurance in the event of an accident.
Counter top
We are planning to install a completely new countertop. While the current one remains functional, it no longer aligns with modern standards and needs. The new countertop will not only improve the aesthetic and functionality of the space, but it will also provide additional storage capacity. Moreover, the working surface will be level throughout, ensuring a more consistent and ergonomic experience, without any variations in height.
