So, when your boat is longer than 7 meters, it is mandatory to have specific navigation lights on your boat. (All boats need those tho... But because Tom is 8,3 meters.....)
You see an example here of how the navigation lights should be visible:
Fig.1 - Navigation Lights Setup. The RED and GREEN lights are allowed to be placed a little behind the top light as well.Fig.2 - Navigation Lights Setup small motor boat. Thanks to Gratis Vaarbewijs - Navigation Lights
In the above examples we see multiple lights with colors.
Port light is red and shines at an angle of 112 ½°
Starboard light is green and also shines at an angle of 112 ½°
Top light is white and shines at an angle of 225°
The Stern light is also white and shines at an angle of 135°.
The top light and the stern light together are 360° (135+225) so that they may be replaced by an all-round white light.
The Anchor light is a white light that is 360° and only lit when the boat is anchored. During the day the black anchor ball needs to be made visible.
In a way we can say that the Red and Green Light combined have the same angle as the toplight: an angle of 225°.
